The first orchard at The Apple Farm near Cahir was planted by the Traas family in 1968, a year after they arrived in Ireland from Holland. Though apples had been grown on the farm for hundreds of years, they began growing much more and once production grew, as well as selling Ireland’s first fresh apples, they began making juices as well. Cider-making was a hobby until 2012, when giving it away to friends became impossible due to the advent of the Facebook ‘friend’. Con Traas is steeped in the apple-growing culture, having won awards for his contribution to fruit-growing from Eurotoques, the Irish Food Writers’ Guild, Bord Bia and the McKenna’s Guide, amongst others.
Both our ciders are produced to the highest sustainability standards and our farm and cider making buisiness is the only one certified by Origin Green in Ireland. Our orchards are havens of biological diversity and thanks to our use of solar power, as well as choosing the most environmentally sustainable inputs, our entire operation will be certified better than carbon neutral by the end of 2017.
Con’s Cider Medium Dry 500ml (5.5%) is made using mostly Katy and Dabinet apples. The cider is medium-dry to dry and has some delicate notes on the palate.
