Dan Kelly’s Cider is named after our great-grandfather who drove a steam train on the Dublin-Belfast line, which passes through our orchard at Drogheda. Our family have been growing apples here in the Boyne Valley for more than 50 years and for generations before that in Co Armagh. Our farm manager has seen four generations of our family work with apples on this farm. We press hand-picked apples for our cider and let wild yeast ferment the juice slowly through the cool winter. Dan Kelly’s Cider is aged for at least a year before bottling.
Dan Kelly’s Cider (4.5% ABV) is fermented slowly through the cool winter using wild yeasts. We don’t use any additives: our cider is simply apple juice and a tiny bit of water. We age the cider for at least a year before bottling. When we are ready to bottle we add a little sweet apple juice back to the cider, which we then lightly carbonate and pasteurise to ensure a predictable shelf-life.
Dan Kelly's Cider (4.5% ABV) is great as an accompaniment to food or simply on its own. We recommend serving the cider chilled, but without the addition of ice. It has a nice refreshing acidity, with a light carbonation and hints of honeyed red apple. Pair Dan Kelly's with pork, strong cheese or spicy Mexican, Indian or Thai.
