A Tradition Handed Down Through Generations.
The Muff Liquor Company was established in 2017 by Donegal native Laura Bonner and her business partner Tom Russell. They produce quality handcrafted premium distilled spirits and have launched their flagship product Irish Potato Craft Gin in February 2018. This is a fresh and vibrant gin that carries sweet notes with a smoothness that is the direct result of the potato base. It is infused with nine different botanicals including Mandarin, Lemon, Rosemary, Elderflower and 1 secret ingredient!
In the early part of the 20th century, Laura’s grandfather Philip McClenaghan farmed the bountiful soil in the fields around Greencastle, Inishowen and grew one of the finest examples of the staple we hold dear as a people – the potato. He could turn his hand to anything and one of his favourite pastimes was to use the potatoes to create his own unique style of poitín. It is this fabled liquor which serves as the inspiration for the potato-based spirits produced by The Muff Liquor Company today.
Granda McClenaghan remained part of the fabric of village life up until his later years, by which stage he had passed down his stories and traditions to a new generation. The Muff Liquor Company now continues his storied legacy of making a product born of the land and crafted by hand and their ambition is to make sure the company is a testament to the hardworking values of Philip McClenaghan. As a tribute to this an illustration of him now rightfully adorns the label on the back of the bottle.
The Muff Liquor Company premium Irish Gin.
Very much a traditional inspired gin but not juniper forward, spicy and aromatic.
On the nose:
Zesty citrus mandarin on the rise with a hint of elderflower wafting upwards.
On the palate:
Juniper forward with a little kick of spice and citrus rounding out the full body and very smooth from the potato based and distilled 6 times.
On the finish:
A bright expression bursting with character, bittersweet mandarin with notes of elderflower and a hint of dryness.
